How frequently and how long do I need to see you?
While each client is different, I do typically recommend that clients begin with one session a week and then spread sessions out as they begin to feel better. Some clients may begin to experience relief after 4-5 sessions, while others may find that they need a few months of consistent meetings before they are ready to spread them out. It depends on many things such as the symptoms you are experiencing, how long you have been feeling this way, and what tools you are already utilizing to manage your symptoms.
How much do counseling and coaching cost?
Counseling is only reimbursable by insurance if there is a mental health diagnosis on file. In the event that you want to use your insurance for counseling, the fee will vary depending on your individual insurance policy. Some clients have a copay, others will pay a percentage of the $110 fee, and some may have to pay the full fee until they meet a deductible. For clients who do not wish to utilize their insurance for counseling, the rate is $110/hr.
Coaching is not reimbursable by insurance, therefore my rate is $110/hr (sessions are typically 60 minutes long).
What is the difference between coaching and counseling?
Counseling can assist with every day stressors and challenges, such as relationship issues, work stress, or family dynamics, as well as diagnosable mental health conditions such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, or Bipolar Disorder. Coaching is not for individuals who are experiencing symptoms of mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, but if you have a goal that you want to work towards and are otherwise in a healthy place, then coaching may be a good fit for you. Coaching is not reimbursable by insurance, and counseling is only reimbursable if there is a mental health diagnosis on file. What if I’m not sure whether or not you would be a good fit for me?
It is very important that you find a counselor or coach that is a good fit with you, both professionally and in terms of personality! I always encourage clients to shop around a bit and speak to a few providers rather than settling on the first one they find. You may want to ask questions about things like: approach, style, whether they have requirements around frequency/number of sessions, areas of expertise, and experience. I offer a free 15 minute phone or in-person consultation for anyone who is unsure about the fit and has lingering questions after viewing my website. I do not do counseling or coaching during this consultation, but I see it as an opportunity to get to know each other a bit and to see whether we would work well together.
Do you offer appointments outside of normal business hours?
I do have some 8:00am and 5:00pm appointments available. If childcare is an issue, I also allow people to bring their children under 1 year old with them to appointments. I have a Boppy and a Rock ‘n’ Play available for people who need to bring their babies with them.
